4 Years of Writing – Learning I Like It

a FIRE of Faith

Four years have passed since I started aFIREofFaith! Wow!

I started this website to process ideas about finance that I felt needed the perspective of Faith. Soon after, I discovered that I enjoy writing more than I realized. While writing in school always seemed to be a forced burden, I found that it is a great tool for expressing and elaborating ideas. It slows down my brain and helps thoughts become clearer.

Home Blog

To broaden my writing subject matter, I started a personal website to be a home for as a home for anything that didn’t seem relevant to this, a personal finance website.

This past year, I had been writing reflections on books that I’ve read and collected. This was a way to remember the books, interact with their themes or ideas a bit more after I’ve read them, and to share these thoughts with those who might be interested.

At the recommendation of a friend, I began to look for places that I could submit these reflections. When I came across Patheos, I saw that they host columns with reflections on all major religions, and they got back saying that I could have a column of my own.

Formed by a Flame – What it’s About

While aFIREofFaith will stay current if and when I have personal finance content, and my website will stay a home base, Formed by a Flame is a weekly column that features reflections from books, media, or daily life and looks at them with a Catholic worldview.

It is nice to have a home for regular written reflection on a variety of topics because our faith reaches into every area of our lives.

As hinted at in my hiatus post, I’m a little less confident in some realms of finance than I originally thought. Who’d’ve thought?! Turns out finance is incredibly personal, and not just an engineering optimization problem.

With that, I’ve been more open to different perspectives on proper use of money and am still forming changing thoughts which leads to less publishing here.

Meanwhile, I still think about a wide variety of topics. So if you enjoy my writing, please search for it over at Formed by a Flame!

To Any New Readers

On another note, this blog is wildly unpopular; however, last week one post saw more traffic than this page has ever seen on a single day.

This was the result of great search results. For any google search pertaining to “4th of July” or “Independence Day” including the word “Reflection” the image for this post from 4 years ago was right up there! (Thanks to Katie for making that for her work and letting me use it!).

In case anyone of those hundred people decide to read more, welcome, and thanks for reading!
